Transparent APCs that support peer review, clinical image quality, and open access publishing.
Transparent APCs for clinically impactful case reports
The Journal of Clinical Case Reports and Images (JCCI) uses an open access publishing model so clinicians, trainees, and researchers can access clinical insights without paywalls. Article Processing Charges (APCs) support the editorial, peer review, production, and hosting services that ensure your case report or image series reaches a global readership.
APCs are only requested after acceptance. There are no submission fees, and rejected manuscripts do not incur any charges.
APC rates reflect the resources required to manage rigorous peer review and high fidelity image production. Discounts and waivers are available to support authors with financial constraints.

Clinical case reports and images are most valuable when they are accessible to frontline clinicians and trainees. Open access publishing ensures that a rare diagnosis, a novel imaging pattern, or a critical safety lesson can be shared immediately with the global medical community. This visibility accelerates education, improves patient outcomes, and increases the citation potential of your work. It also supports continuing education for clinicians in diverse care settings.
JCCI invests in discoverability through structured metadata, DOI assignment, and indexing submissions. The APC helps ensure that your report remains permanently available, searchable, and easy to cite across journals, clinical databases, and teaching platforms.
Beyond production and hosting, the APC supports high standards of reporting and clinical integrity. Our goal is to publish case reports that are both educational and methodologically sound.
- Editorial screening for scope fit, ethics, and patient consent documentation.
- Clinical peer review to validate diagnostic reasoning and outcome interpretation.
- Image quality checks for resolution, labeling, and interpretability.
- Copyediting to ensure clarity, terminology accuracy, and structured narrative flow.
- Metadata optimization to improve search visibility and long term discoverability.
- Secure archival to preserve clinical evidence for future reference.
JCCI is committed to ensuring that financial constraints do not prevent the publication of valuable clinical insights. We offer multiple discount and waiver programs to support authors worldwide.
Waivers are granted based on documented need and the availability of funds. We prioritize submissions that have strong clinical relevance and educational impact, especially from regions where access to publishing resources is limited.
Membership Discounts
JCCI members receive significant APC reductions. Individual researchers can save up to 45% on publication costs through our membership programs.
Low-Income Country Waivers
Authors from World Bank-classified low-income countries are eligible for affordable APC waivers. Waiver levels are assessed based on need and available documentation.
Hardship Waivers
Individual authors facing financial hardship may request discretionary waivers. Requests are considered during submission and evaluated fairly and transparently.
To ensure timely review and production, we encourage authors to request waivers at the time of submission. This allows the editorial office to provide guidance early and avoid delays after acceptance.
- Submit a brief justification for the waiver request during manuscript submission.
- Provide documentation of institutional or funding constraints when available.
- Indicate whether your institution can cover part of the APC.
- Wait for confirmation from the editorial office before final acceptance.
★ No Hidden Fees
The APC is a one time charge. There are no submission fees, page charges, color figure fees, or supplementary material charges. What you see is what you pay.
Payment Methods: We accept payments via PayPal. For bank transfer payments, please contact our Accounts Department at [email protected].
Payment is due within 48 hours of acceptance notification. If your institution requires a formal invoice, our editorial office will provide documentation to support processing.
JCCI publishes under the Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY 4.0) license. This license allows others to reuse your work with proper attribution, which increases educational impact and clinical uptake. Authors retain copyright while enabling clinicians and educators to share findings in teaching and practice.
If your funding body requires a specific open access license, inform the editorial office at submission. We will confirm licensing requirements during the acceptance process and ensure that metadata reflect the correct reuse terms.
Many institutions and funding bodies support open access publication for clinically relevant research. Authors are encouraged to check with their institutions about APC coverage, library agreements, or departmental funds that may reduce out of pocket costs. When required, JCCI can issue formal invoices or letters of acceptance to support reimbursement workflows. We can also provide receipts for grant reporting.
If your funding source has specific open access requirements, please notify the editorial office so that we can align licensing and documentation accordingly.
If your manuscript is rejected at any stage of the review process, no charges apply. Once acceptance is issued and production services begin, the APC supports the publication workflow and is non-refundable. Please arrange payment promptly to avoid delays in publication scheduling and proof delivery.
When is the APC invoiced?
Invoices are issued only after editorial acceptance. You will receive payment instructions with the acceptance notice and can request an institutional invoice if needed.
Do rejected manuscripts incur charges?
No. There are no submission fees, and rejected manuscripts do not incur APCs or related charges.
Can I pay through my institution?
Yes. Many authors pay via institutional funds or grants. We can provide invoices and payment receipts for administrative processing.
Are waivers guaranteed?
Waivers are not automatic and depend on eligibility, documentation, and available resources. Early requests help the editorial office provide guidance before acceptance.
Ethical misconduct: Concurrent submission of a manuscript to multiple journals is a violation of publication ethics. If a paper is withdrawn from JCCI after 3 days of submission to be sent elsewhere, a 30% withdrawal fee applies. Official withdrawal must be confirmed by the editorial office before submitting elsewhere.
