Call for Papers

The Journal of Agronomy Research invites original, well designed, and impactful research that advances sustainable crop production and agricultural systems.

Journal Overview

The Journal of Agronomy Research is a peer reviewed, open access journal focused on agronomy, crop science, soil management, and farming systems. We publish work that connects field evidence with practical and scalable solutions. Submissions should be clear, methodologically rigorous, and relevant to global or regional agricultural challenges.

We welcome interdisciplinary research that connects agronomy with climate resilience, water and nutrient management, agricultural technology, and soil biology. Research from diverse agroecological zones is encouraged, including field trials, modeling studies, and applied agronomic innovations that can inform practice and policy.

Our aim is to provide a reliable forum for agronomists, soil scientists, crop modelers, and practitioners who work at the intersection of productivity and sustainability. Manuscripts should be grounded in evidence and present findings in a way that can be translated to real world agricultural decisions.

Scope and Topics

We welcome submissions in core and emerging areas of agronomy, including:

  • Crop production systems, management, and yield stability
  • Soil fertility, soil health, and nutrient cycling
  • Agroecology, regenerative agriculture, and sustainability
  • Precision agriculture, sensing, and decision support tools
  • Plant nutrition, water use efficiency, and irrigation design
  • Climate smart agronomy and adaptation strategies
  • Plant microbe interactions and rhizosphere biology
  • Integrated pest and weed management in cropping systems
  • Crop improvement, stress tolerance, and genotype by environment studies
  • Agroforestry, crop rotations, and soil cover practices

Studies may include field experiments, controlled environment trials, modeling, meta analyses, remote sensing applications, and socio agronomic assessments when linked to production outcomes.

Article Types
  • Original Research Articles
  • Review Articles and Systematic Reviews
  • Short Communications
  • Case Studies and Field Reports
  • Methods and Protocols
What Makes a Strong Submission
  • A clear research question linked to agronomic relevance
  • Methods that are reproducible and transparent
  • Appropriate statistical analysis and reporting
  • Interpretation grounded in evidence and context
  • Actionable implications for crop or soil management

We encourage authors to provide sufficient context about the production system, site conditions, and management practices so that findings can be evaluated and compared across regions.

Manuscripts that integrate field observations with sound experimental design, and that discuss how results translate to agronomic practice, are particularly valued. Clear figures, well organized tables, and concise writing help reviewers and readers evaluate the contribution efficiently.

Out of Scope

Submissions that are not directly related to agronomy or crop and soil systems may be declined without review. Examples include purely clinical or medical studies, basic laboratory work without agronomic linkage, or manuscripts that lack field or applied relevance.

Ethics and Integrity

The journal follows COPE and ICMJE guidance. Authors are expected to disclose conflicts of interest, report funding sources, and confirm that all listed authors meet authorship criteria. Plagiarism screening is conducted, and suspected misconduct is handled according to established ethical procedures.

When research involves human participants, animals, or protected sites, include the relevant ethics approval and consent statements. For collaborative studies, ensure that all contributors approve the final submission and agree to the stated author contributions.

Why Publish with JAR?
  • Rigorous peer review by subject matter experts
  • Professional production including DOI assignment and archiving
  • Open access visibility for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers
  • Constructive editorial feedback focused on scientific clarity
  • Support for data availability and transparent reporting
Submission and Review

All manuscripts are screened for scope and integrity, then assigned to expert reviewers. Authors should ensure that their work is original, not under consideration elsewhere, and compliant with ethical standards. Where relevant, include ethics approval, data availability statements, and reporting checklists (EQUATOR Network).

Preprints are allowed. Authors should disclose preprints at submission and update the record after publication. A cover letter is required and should briefly describe the novelty, methods, and relevance of the work.

During peer review, reviewers focus on design, reproducibility, and the agronomic significance of the findings. Editors may request clarifications or revisions to improve clarity and technical rigor.

Data, Materials, and Reporting Expectations

We encourage transparent and reproducible research. Authors should describe experimental design, site conditions, and management practices in sufficient detail to allow comparison or replication. When datasets or code are available, deposit them in trusted repositories and include access details in a Data Availability Statement.

  • Provide units, cultivar names, and measurement methods
  • Report statistical models, assumptions, and software used
  • Include supplemental material when complex methods are required
  • Follow reporting checklists for appropriate study types

Clear reporting helps readers interpret agronomic outcomes and supports evidence based decision making in the field.

Open Access and Research Visibility

Articles are published open access to maximize visibility across researchers, extension professionals, and policymakers. Open access also supports knowledge transfer to agronomists working in diverse production systems. Authors retain copyright under a Creative Commons license and receive a DOI for permanent citation.

Special Issues

We also accept submissions for special issues focused on targeted themes such as soil health, climate resilience, precision agronomy, or crop system innovation. Authors should indicate the special issue in the cover letter field during submission.

Submission Checklist
  • Manuscript follows the journal formatting and word limits
  • Title page includes author affiliations and ORCID for the corresponding author
  • Figures and tables are clear and referenced in the text
  • Data availability statement is included
  • Conflicts of interest and funding are disclosed

When revisions are requested, address each reviewer comment clearly and explain changes in a response document. Transparent responses and careful revisions help the editorial team reach a decision efficiently.
