Required Files and Submission Items

Submit files in editable formats so reviewers can assess the work and production can proceed smoothly after acceptance.

  • Main manuscript file (Word preferred) with title page, abstract, and embedded tables.
  • Separate figure files for each image in high resolution format.
  • Supplementary files that expand methods or data, if applicable.
  • Ethics approval documentation available upon request.
  • Any permissions for reused figures or third party content.
Authorship, Acknowledgments, and Funding

Revisions and Resubmissions

If revisions are requested, submit a point by point response that addresses each reviewer comment. Highlight changes within the manuscript and provide clear rationale for any requested changes you cannot make. Revised manuscripts should be returned within the requested timeframe or the submission may be treated as new.

Language, Units, and Abbreviations

Use standard SI units, define abbreviations at first use, and avoid unexplained jargon. Spell out clinical terms and drug names when first mentioned. Ensure tables and figures use consistent units and rounding. Define acronyms in each table.

Preprints and Prior Publication

JWRH considers manuscripts posted as preprints, provided this is disclosed at submission and the preprint record is updated after publication. The work must not be under consideration elsewhere or previously published in a peer reviewed journal. Please cite the preprint DOI in your cover letter.

Ethics, Reporting, and Transparency

JWRH follows the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines. Authors must ensure ethical approval, informed consent, and transparent reporting. Submissions lacking required approvals may be returned for revision or declined.

  • Human studies must include ethics committee approval and documented informed consent.
  • Clinical trials should be registered, and registration details included in the manuscript.
  • Animal studies must follow institutional and national welfare guidelines.
  • Provide a conflict of interest statement and disclose funding sources.
  • Include a data availability statement describing how data can be accessed or why access is restricted.
Figures, Tables, and Supplementary Data

Figures and tables should clarify the narrative and remain essential to the manuscript. Submit high resolution figures and ensure that all tables are editable.

  • Place tables and figure legends at the end of the manuscript file.
  • Provide separate figure files at publication quality resolution upon acceptance.
  • Supplementary files should add value and remain optional for understanding results.
  • Obtain permissions for any previously published material.
References and Citation Style

References are numbered in the order of appearance and cited in the text by number. List the first five authors followed by "et al." for additional authors.

Example: Sariah A, Rugemalila J, Somba M, Minja M, Makuchilo M et al. (2016) Experiences with disclosure of HIV-positive status to the infected child: Perspectives of healthcare providers in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. BMC Public Health. 16(1), 996-1083.
Editorial Review and Decision Process

Every submission undergoes editorial screening to confirm scope fit, ethics compliance, and reporting quality. Manuscripts that pass screening are sent for external peer review. Editors may request revisions to improve clarity and clinical relevance. For full details, review the peer review policy.

Open Access, Licensing, and APCs

All accepted articles are published open access under a Creative Commons license, enabling broad dissemination with proper attribution. APCs apply only after acceptance and support editorial management, production, and long term archiving. Current charges and waiver policies are listed on the Article Processing Charges page.

After Acceptance

Once accepted, manuscripts enter production for copyediting, typesetting, and proof review. Authors approve final publication and articles are assigned DOIs, indexed, and archived. We encourage authors to share the published link.
