Editors Guidelines
Responsibilities and expectations for editors supporting JVHC submissions.
- Assess scope fit, ethical compliance, and reporting quality at screening.
- Select reviewers with relevant veterinary expertise and monitor timelines.
- Provide clear, evidence based recommendations to authors and the office.
- Maintain confidentiality and declare conflicts of interest promptly.
Editors evaluate methodological rigor, clinical relevance, and adherence to animal welfare policies. Manuscripts should include ethics approvals, data availability statements, and transparent disclosures.
- Confirm methods are described clearly enough for replication.
- Verify animal welfare and owner consent requirements are met.
- Ensure tables, figures, and statistics align with results.
Editors should respond promptly to author and reviewer queries. Timely handling improves author experience and supports the journal timeline.
If potential misconduct, welfare concerns, or undisclosed conflicts arise, editors should notify the editorial office and document the concern. The office will coordinate the investigation in line with COPE guidance.
Editors may also recommend reviewer training resources or reporting checklists when needed.
Consistent application of these standards supports trust in the journal.
