Every article is published open access under CC BY 4.0 at a stable address on this site, with the full text readable without a subscription or an account, and a PDF of record alongside it.
Article metadata
Each article page carries structured citation metadata — title, authors and their affiliations, journal title, publication date, volume, issue and pagination, and the address of the PDF — in the form that bibliographic services read.
Digital preservation
This journal’s content is committed to Portico, a not-for-profit digital-preservation archive run by ITHAKA (the organization behind JSTOR). As articles are deposited they enter Portico’s permanent archive, so the scholarly record stays available for the long term — even if a title one day ceases to publish.

PubMed Central
Eligible NIH-funded manuscripts may be deposited individually in PubMed Central through the NIH Manuscript Submission System (NIHMS).
Reading this page
What the categories mean
These terms are often used interchangeably and mean different things. The journal states only what it can evidence in each category.
Identifiers
Registered handles that let a journal and its individual articles be cited and resolved from other systems. An identifier makes a record addressable; it is not a measure of quality, and it is not indexing.
Metadata and harvesting
The structured description of an article, and the interfaces through which other systems collect it. Good metadata makes a record findable; it does not by itself place the journal in any database.
Discovery services
Search systems that crawl open web content and assemble it into results. Their coverage is decided by each service and changes without notice.
Selective indexing
Journal-level acceptance into a curated database after evaluation against that database's own criteria. Only a database's own record establishes this status, and the journal publishes such a status here once it holds that record.
Preservation
Deposit into an archive that will keep the record available independently of the publisher. Preservation is about permanence, not discovery.
