Aims & scope
The journal publishes epidemiological and population-health research: studies of how disease is distributed across populations, how health systems perform, and how social, economic and environmental conditions shape health outcomes. Conclusions must be drawn at the level of populations or health systems rather than the individual patient.
Incidence and prevalence studies, outbreak investigation, surveillance methodology and data quality, spatial and temporal disease mapping, and epidemic modelling and forecasting.
Social determinants of health, environmental and occupational exposures, behavioural risk-factor surveillance, nutritional epidemiology, and research on health inequities.
Transmission dynamics and modelling, vaccine effectiveness and coverage, antimicrobial resistance surveillance, neglected tropical disease burden, and communicable disease control.
Service delivery and access, universal health coverage, health workforce distribution and capacity, health financing and economic evaluation, and implementation science.

Manuscripts are screened by an editor and assessed by external reviewers. Peer review is Single-blind (double-blind on request). Editorial decisions are based on scientific merit and remain independent of fees, membership or any service the publisher offers. Every article is openly available immediately on publication, with no subscription and no reader-side charge. Articles are published under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (CC BY 4.0), and authors retain copyright in their work.
USD 1,800
Standard charge for an accepted article. A reduced rate of USD 900 — half the standard charge — applies to student-led submissions. The charge falls due only after a manuscript has been accepted. It is not a condition of review and has no bearing on the editorial decision.
