Overview

Metabolic pathways are ordered sequences of enzyme-catalyzed reactions in which the product of one step becomes the substrate of the next, channeling metabolites toward energy production, biosynthesis, or detoxification. Central examples include glycolysis, the citric acid cycle, oxidative phosphorylation, and the pathways of lipid, amino acid, and nucleotide metabolism, which together convert nutrients into ATP, reducing power, and the building blocks of proteins and nucleic acids. Pathways are coordinated through regulatory Enzymes, feedback inhibition, allosteric control, and hormonal signaling, and their dysregulation produces metabolic syndromes, dyslipidemias, and contributes to malignant transformation. Research relevant to this topic includes redox-enzyme function, the molecular and metabolic pathogenesis of familial combined hyperlipidemia and its link to metabolic syndrome, the impact of nutrients on diabetes, and the disruption of hematopoiesis through drug-induced metabolic mechanisms. Related work addresses yeast-mediated bioprocesses and bio-products, metabolomic assessment of environmental exposure, targeting of cell metabolism in leukaemia, exercise-induced metabolic signaling, and the move from personalized medication toward customized nutrition. The journal publishes peer-reviewed research on Enzymes and the metabolic pathways they constitute, addressing reaction mechanisms, regulation, and their significance in physiology, disease, and biotechnology.
