Overview
Barrett's Esophagus is a precancerous condition of the esophagus characterized by the replacement of the normal squamous epithelium by intestinal metaplasia. This condition is strongly associated with chronic acid reflux and is an important risk factor for esophageal adenocarcinoma. Early detection and treatment of Barrett's Esophagus can lead to improved outcomes and reduce the risk of progression to cancer. Endoscopic surveillance and biopsy are used to monitor the condition and endoscopic mucosal resection or radiofrequency ablation may be used to treat Barrett's Esophagus.
