Overview
Health Services Research and Policy examines how healthcare systems are organized, financed, and delivered, and how policy decisions affect access to care, quality of services, and health outcomes across populations. Research published in Public Health International on this topic addresses diverse dimensions of healthcare delivery and policy implementation across multiple global contexts. Published studies have evaluated quality improvement strategies in private healthcare facilities using structured assessment frameworks, examined barriers and facilitators to community health worker implementation of maternal and child health programs, and assessed community health needs through cluster-randomized trials in urban settings. The journal has featured investigations into healthcare access among specific populations, including migrants navigating health systems, rural adolescents seeking reproductive health services, and expectant mothers utilizing mobile communication for antenatal care. Additional research has explored policy approaches to tobacco control, integration of traditional healthcare practices with national health systems, and self-medication behaviors that reflect gaps in formal care access. Studies have also addressed mental health disparities among marginalized groups and the intersection of discrimination with health outcomes. This body of work demonstrates how health services research informs evidence-based policy decisions that can improve healthcare equity, quality, and accessibility in diverse settings.
