Overview

Neurology is the branch of medicine concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the nervous system, which comprises the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves. Neurologists evaluate and manage a wide range of conditions, including stroke, dementia and Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, headache disorders, and neuromuscular diseases, drawing on clinical examination together with imaging, electrophysiological, and laboratory investigations. The field addresses how injury or disease disrupts movement, sensation, cognition, and other functions controlled by the nervous system, and it spans acute conditions such as ischemic stroke as well as chronic, progressive disorders. Research in this journal contributes across these areas, including studies on the evaluation and protocols for acute ischemic stroke, predictors of lacunar infarction, disability and prognostic factors in multiple sclerosis, the history and methodology of neurological research, and the role of music in neurology. Work on cognitive impairment and Alzheimer's disease, as well as progressive neurological complications in other diseases, further reflects the breadth of the discipline. Within the scope of Nervous System and Physiological Phenomena, neurology integrates the study of disease mechanisms with clinical care. This page gathers peer-reviewed, open-access research relevant to neurological disorders, their diagnosis, and their treatment.
