Overview

Homology modeling is an approach used in molecular biology to make predictions about the structure, function and evolution of a protein. It is based on the idea that a protein with a similar sequence likely has a similar structure and function. In homology modeling, the structure of a target protein is predicted by comparing it to the structure of a known protein with a similar sequence. This comparison is based on the principles of sequence and structural similarity, and often involves the use of computer algorithms. Homology modeling is an important tool for biological research, as it can be used to make predictions about the structure and function of proteins before they are experimentally studied. Homology modeling can also be used to predict mutations in proteins, and to design and produce new proteins with desired properties.
