Three routes lead to the same editorial office and the same assessment. Choose whichever suits you; the route makes no difference to how the manuscript is read.
One manuscript, one route
Authors must use only one submission route for the same manuscript.
The approved routes
Primary route
The publisher’s manuscript system.
Alternative route
A short web form that opens with this journal selected.
Assisted route
For authors who would rather send the manuscript to the editorial office.
Before you send it
Fit
The manuscript has been checked against Aims and Scope, and the editorial office has been asked where the fit was uncertain.
Files
The manuscript is an editable text file with line numbering; figures are separate files; the reporting checklist for the design is completed.
Declarations
Authorship contributions, competing interests, funding, ethical approval and consent where the design requires them, and the data-availability statement.
Review model
Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request. A request for double-blind review is made at submission.
For double-blind review, remove author names, affiliations, acknowledgments, funding details, institution names, and other identifying information from the reviewer manuscript. Provide identifying information separately in the title-page file or submission form.
What happens next
The editorial office acknowledges the submission and screens it before any reviewer is approached.
Nothing is charged to submit or to have a manuscript reviewed. The article processing charge of USD 1,200 is invoiced only after editorial acceptance; the complete withdrawal terms are on the Article Processing Charges page.
- Screening
- All submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal's scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review.
- Review model
- Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request.
- Reviewers
- Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.
- Decisions
- Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal.
- Independence
- Those decisions remain independent of fees, services, memberships, and roles.
