Before anything else
Check the manuscript against Aims and Scope. Fit is the first question an editor asks, and the editorial office will answer it before you prepare a full submission if you ask.
Preparing a submission

Confirm the fit
The journal considers work in which inflammation of the blood-vessel wall is the subject of the question, across mechanisms, classification, diagnosis, treatment and outcomes.
If the fit is uncertain, write to the editorial office with the title and abstract rather than preparing the full manuscript first.

Prepare the manuscript
Submit the manuscript as an editable text file rather than a scan or a flattened export. Use continuous line numbering and a clear heading structure, and keep tables in text form rather than as images.
Report the study using the checklist appropriate to its design — CONSORT for trials, STROBE for observational studies, PRISMA for systematic reviews, CARE for case reports, STARD for diagnostic accuracy, ARRIVE for animal research — and submit the completed checklist with the manuscript.

Prepare figures and supplementary files
Supply figures at a resolution that stays legible when printed, each as a separate file, with its caption in the manuscript rather than burned into the image.
Where an image could identify a patient, written consent to publish is required and is stated in the manuscript.

Write the declarations
Every manuscript carries statements of authorship contributions, competing interests, funding, and ethical approval where the study involves human participants or animals.
Every empirical research manuscript must include a data-availability statement. Interventional clinical trials must be registered in an accepted public trial registry at or before the first participant provides consent for enrollment. The registry name, registration number, and registration date must be reported in the manuscript.

Decide on review model
Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request. Requests for double-blind review are made at submission.
For double-blind review, remove author names, affiliations, acknowledgments, funding details, institution names, and other identifying information from the reviewer manuscript. Provide identifying information separately in the title-page file or submission form.

Submit
Use one of the journal’s approved routes. Authors must use only one submission route for the same manuscript.
Nothing is charged to submit or to have a manuscript reviewed; the article processing charge of USD 1,200 is invoiced only after editorial acceptance.
References and metadata
References
Use one reference style consistently throughout the manuscript and include a DOI for each cited work where one exists.
Cite the version of record where possible, and identify preprints as preprints.
Author identifiers
Supply an ORCID iD for each author where one exists, so that the published record attributes the work correctly.
Affiliations
Give each author’s affiliation at the time the work was done, with the institution’s full registered name.
Language
The journal publishes in English. Authors who would like language support before submission may arrange it independently; it is not a condition of review and has no bearing on the decision.
What happens after submission
The editorial office acknowledges the submission and screens it for scope, completeness and the required declarations before any reviewer is approached.
Authors are told the outcome of each stage. Where revision is requested, the editor sets out what the revision needs to address.
- Screening
- All submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal's scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review.
- Review model
- Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request.
- Reviewers
- Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.
- Decisions
- Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal.
