An author-side deposit route for manuscripts that carry eligible NIH funding. The deposit is made per manuscript, by or on behalf of the author.
A deposited manuscript appears in PubMed Central as an individual record.
What it is not
Individual manuscript deposit is separate from journal-level inclusion in PubMed, MEDLINE or PubMed Central.

Bibliographic metadata
Each article page publishes structured citation metadata — title, authors, affiliations, journal title, publication date, volume, issue and page range — in the form search services read.
Publishing metadata makes an article legible to a discovery service; whether any given service includes it is that service’s decision.
Full text and formats
Articles are published as full text on the article page and as PDF and JATS XML, so the record can be read, cited and archived in the forms the scholarly infrastructure expects.
Similarity screening
Submissions are screened for overlap with the published literature through Crossref Similarity Check, and screened articles carry that mark on the article page.
Licensing
Articles published to date carry a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY 4.0) license, so they may be reused with attribution.
