Requests for Length Exceptions

If your manuscript exceeds these limits and reducing it would compromise the scientific meaning or completeness of the work, please contact the Editorial Office at [email protected] prior to submission to request guidance on a suitable exception.

Manuscript Structure

Original research articles should follow this structured format to ensure completeness and clarity:

  1. Title Page: Include a concise, informative title, full author names, institutional affiliations, corresponding author contact details with email address, word count, article type, funding sources, conflict of interest declarations, and 5-8 keywords aligned with MeSH terms.
  2. Abstract: Structured with Background, Objective, Methods, Results, and Conclusions sections. The abstract should stand alone as a complete summary of the work. Include the study design and key numerical findings.
  3. Introduction: Provide background context, clearly state the research problem, review relevant prior work, and articulate the specific objectives and hypotheses of the study.
  4. Methods: Describe study design, setting, participants (including inclusion/exclusion criteria), data collection procedures, outcome measures, and statistical analysis plan. Include ethical approval information.
  5. Results: Present findings with supporting data in the order specified in the methods. Use tables and figures strategically. Report all pre-specified outcomes.
  6. Discussion: Interpret findings in context of existing literature. Discuss clinical implications, limitations, and directions for future research. Avoid overstating conclusions.
  7. Conclusions: Brief summary of key findings and their significance for human health.
  8. Acknowledgments: Recognize funding agencies and individuals who contributed but do not meet authorship criteria.
  9. References: Vancouver style formatting with complete bibliographic information and DOIs where available.

Figure and Table Guidelines

High-quality figures and tables are essential for effective communication of research:

  • Submit figures as separate high-resolution files (300 DPI minimum)
  • Use accessible color palettes considering color-blind readers
  • Include clear axis labels with units for all graphs
  • Tables should have descriptive titles and define all abbreviations in footnotes
  • Images of patients must be de-identified or include written consent
  • Number figures and tables consecutively as cited in text
References (Vancouver Style)

Format references according to the Vancouver style. Number references consecutively in the order they appear in the text. Use superscript numbers in the text. Include DOIs for journal articles where available. Examples:

  • Journal Article: Smith AB, Jones CD, Wilson EF. Effects of exercise on cardiovascular health: a randomized trial. J Health Res. 2025;15(2):123-135. doi:10.1000/jhr.2025.0123

  4. Review: Single-blind peer review by health research specialists (2-4 weeks). You will receive reviewer comments and editorial decision.
  5. Revise: If revision is requested, address all reviewer feedback point-by-point with a response document.
  6. Accept: Pay the APC after your manuscript is formally accepted for publication.
  7. Publish: Your article will be published online within 2 weeks of payment confirmation.
Data Availability

JHHR encourages data sharing to promote reproducibility and transparency in health research. Authors should include a Data Availability Statement describing how readers can access the underlying data. Options include: public repositories (preferred for large datasets), supplementary files, available upon reasonable request to corresponding author, or not applicable (for review articles without original data). For clinical data, authors must balance transparency with patient privacy requirements.

Authorship Requirements

JHHR follows ICMJE criteria for authorship. All listed authors must have made substantial contributions to: conception/design or data acquisition/analysis; drafting or critically revising the manuscript; final approval; and agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work. Contributors who do not meet all criteria should be acknowledged rather than listed as authors. Changes to authorship after submission require written confirmation from all authors.

Cover Letter

Submissions should include a cover letter addressed to the Editor-in-Chief that briefly describes the study's significance, key findings, and why this work is suitable for JHHR. Declare any prior publications or submissions of related work. Confirm that the manuscript is original, not under consideration elsewhere, and that all authors approve the submission.
