Overview

Evidence-based nursing practice is an approach to nursing care in which clinical decisions are guided by the best available research evidence, integrated with nursing expertise and the values and preferences of patients. Rather than relying on tradition, routine, or individual opinion alone, it asks nurses to formulate clinical questions, locate and critically appraise relevant studies, apply the findings to practice, and evaluate the outcomes. The aim is to improve patient safety and quality of care, reduce unwarranted variation, and ensure that interventions are supported by sound evidence. Implementing evidence-based practice involves accessing research databases and guidelines, judging the strength and relevance of evidence, and adapting recommendations to the realities of a particular patient and setting. It also depends on organizational support, education, and a culture that encourages inquiry and continual improvement. Human Health Research, the OpenAccessPub journal hosting this page, publishes peer-reviewed, open-access research across clinical care, health services, and applied health practice. This page gathers open-access scholarship relevant to evidence-based nursing practice and the use of research to inform and strengthen nursing care.
