Overview

Plant science is the study of plants and their interactions with the environment. It encompasses a wide range of topics, including the structure and function of plants, genetics, ecology, evolution, biochemistry and physiology. Plant science is important for understanding the role of plants in sustaining life on earth, providing food, fiber, fuel, and medicines. Plant science also contributes to advances in modern agriculture, horticulture, and forestry. Plant science research helps in the development of agricultural products that are environmentally sustainable and enhance global food security. It can also be used to develop new varieties of plants for improved agricultural productivity, better disease and pest resistance, and improved drought tolerance. Plant science also contributes to the conservation of endangered species of plants, and advances in biotechnology.
