Overview

Fuels are substances that store chemical or nuclear energy in a form that can be released, typically through combustion or electrochemical reaction, to perform work or generate heat and electricity. They are broadly classified as fossil fuels, such as coal, petroleum, and natural gas; biofuels derived from biomass, including biodiesel and bioethanol; and alternative energy carriers such as hydrogen used in fuel cells. A fuel cell converts the chemical energy of a fuel and an oxidant directly into electricity through controlled electrochemical reactions, offering efficient and low-emission power. Fuel performance is characterized by energy density, combustion behavior, spray and ignition characteristics, and environmental footprint. Research relevant to this topic includes the study of dual-fuel spray and combustion of diesel, natural gas, and their blends, the production of biodiesel through base-catalyzed transesterification of residual cotton seed oil, biotechnological and algal routes to bio-based fuels and products, and sustainable solid-waste management as an energy resource. Related work examines gas turbine operation and photovoltaic-thermal energy systems. The journal publishes peer-reviewed research on conventional and renewable fuels, their combustion and conversion, and the development of cleaner energy carriers, reflecting the central role of fuels in Energy Conservation and the transition toward sustainable power.
