Overview

Drug discovery is the multidisciplinary process of identifying and developing new therapeutic agents, beginning with selection and validation of a biological target, proceeding through identification of lead compounds by screening or rational design, and advancing through optimization of potency, selectivity, and pharmacological properties before preclinical and clinical evaluation. It integrates biology, medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, and increasingly computational and high-throughput approaches, and depends on iterative refinement of candidate molecules against efficacy and safety criteria. Research relevant to this area includes platform-based complex-disease modeling for ethical drug discovery, in silico, in vitro, and in vivo drug-design strategies, computer-aided drug design, immunoglobulin-based therapeutic development, big-data and computational systems-biology methods for target identification and toxicity prediction, design of novel isatin analogues with analgesic and anti-inflammatory activity, calcium-transient compound screening using stem-cell-derived cardiomyocytes, proteomic and genomic techniques in cancer and personalized medicine, and applications of artificial intelligence in healthcare. The journal publishes peer-reviewed work, grouped here under drug-resistant pathogen research and pharmaceutical sciences, addressing target identification, lead design, computational modeling, and screening in the discovery of new drugs, connecting molecular, computational, and experimental approaches to the development of safe and effective therapeutic agents across disease areas.
