Overview

Drug delivery is the field concerned with the methods, formulations, and technologies that transport therapeutic agents to their site of action in the body at an appropriate rate, concentration, and duration. It aims to maximize efficacy while minimizing toxicity by controlling release, improving solubility and stability, enabling targeting to specific tissues, and overcoming biological barriers, using vehicles such as tablets, transdermal patches, injectables, liposomes, polymeric scaffolds, and nanoparticles. Advances in nanomedicine and stimulus-responsive carriers increasingly permit site-specific and triggered release. Research relevant to this area includes natural-gum carriers for colon-targeted oral delivery, penetration enhancers for transdermal delivery, lipid assemblies and polymerizable liposomes as delivery tools, pH-sensitive nanomedicine for gynecological cancers, calcium-orthophosphate scaffolds for bone tissue engineering, gold-nanorod-mediated siRNA delivery to neuronal cells, chitosan-scaffold characterization, silver-nanoparticle cytotoxicity in cell lines, and nanomedicinal features of traditional formulations. The journal publishes peer-reviewed work, grouped here under drug-resistant pathogen research and pharmaceutical sciences, addressing the design, characterization, and application of drug-delivery systems including nanocarriers, liposomes, and biomaterial scaffolds, connecting formulation and materials research to the controlled, targeted, and efficient administration of therapeutic and bioactive agents.
