Overview

Engineering and technology are closely related fields concerned with applying scientific knowledge to design, build, and improve the tools, machines, structures, systems, and processes that meet human needs. Engineering refers specifically to the disciplined application of science and mathematics to create and maintain practical solutions, spanning branches such as civil, mechanical, electrical, chemical, and biomedical engineering, while technology refers more broadly to the products, methods, and know-how that result from such application and to the means by which problems are solved and tasks accomplished. Together they drive innovation across virtually every sector, from infrastructure and manufacturing to communication, healthcare, and computing, and they increasingly converge with data science, automation, and interdisciplinary research. Advances in these fields shape economic development, productivity, and quality of life, while also raising considerations of safety, sustainability, and ethics. Within Current Scientific Research, engineering and technology represent a broad, cross-disciplinary domain in which scientific findings are translated into applied methods and devices, often intersecting with the life sciences, computing, and the physical sciences. This page gathers peer-reviewed, open-access research relevant to engineering and technology and their applications across scientific and applied disciplines.
