Crop Protection and Physiology

Crop Protection and Physiology is a field of applied science dedicated to understanding the environmental and environmental-related factors affecting the growth and productivity of crop plants, and the physiology underlying their interactions with those factors. By understanding the plant physiology, growth and development, the goal of Crop Protection and Physiology is to develop techniques and technologies to reduce losses of crops from pests, diseases and other abiotic factors. This includes the development of vaccines and other measures to protect crops from diseases, the development of agrochemicals to protect against pests and diseases, and the development of crop-management and farming practices that aim to reduce damage while maximizing yields. Crop Protection and Physiology is essential for food-security since it is the basis of many of the technologies and strategies used by farmers to ensure the production of safe and healthy crops for human consumption.
