Indexing and Discovery
How the journal's articles are identified, discovered and preserved through distinct services.
ISSN registration, DOI records, metadata harvesting, selective indexing and preservation each serve a distinct purpose in the journal's publication record.
Journal identifiers
An identifier names the journal and its articles so they can be cited and resolved unambiguously, wherever a reader or a service encounters them. Identifiers are the infrastructure layer of this page: they establish identity and resolution, and the later sections describe what discovery services and selective databases do with that identity.

- DOI prefix 10.14302/issn.2998-1506, under which each article receives a permanent Digital Object Identifier.
DOI registration
Articles are registered with Crossref, which resolves each DOI to the article and makes its metadata — title, authors, journal, date and page range — available to any service that consumes Crossref records.
Crossref registration supports DOI resolution and makes article metadata available to services that use Crossref records. Selective databases make their own inclusion decisions, which section 04 describes.
Metadata harvesting
Article metadata is exposed through the publisher’s OAI-PMH interface, the standard protocol by which repositories, aggregators and discovery services collect records. Harvesting is what makes the journal’s records available for collection. Each service then applies its own selection criteria, so coverage is confirmed with the service itself.
Selective journal-level indexing
Selective indexing is a separate editorial judgment made by each database against its own criteria, and it is the only category on this page that represents such a judgment. The journal’s current status with a particular database is confirmed by the editorial office, which will give the position in writing on request.
Deposit in PubMed Central
Eligible NIH-funded manuscripts may be deposited individually in PubMed Central through the NIH Manuscript Submission System (NIHMS).
This is a funder-driven deposit route that operates manuscript by manuscript: eligibility follows the funding attached to a particular article, and the deposit places that article in PubMed Central. Journal-level coverage in any selective database remains the separate question described in section 04.
Digital preservation
This journal’s content is committed to Portico, a not-for-profit digital-preservation archive run by ITHAKA (the organization behind JSTOR). As articles are deposited they enter Portico’s permanent archive, so the scholarly record stays available for the long term — even if a title one day ceases to publish.
