Special Issues Journal of Peptides
A special issue gathers work that answers one question from several directions. Journal of Peptides builds them from proposals by researchers who know where such a question sits.

Bringing a collection to the journal
Journal of Peptides welcomes proposals for focused collections that address important questions in peptide science. Researchers with relevant expertise are invited to review the proposal requirements and contact the editorial office.
Collections that work tend to be the ones a field is already arguing about: a synthetic problem several groups are approaching differently, a structural question that new methods have reopened, a class of bioactive peptides whose mechanism is contested, or a methodological shift worth documenting while it is happening.
Read the proposal requirements, or write to the editorial office with an outline of the theme, why it is timely, and who would guest-edit it.
What a proposal contains
The outline the journal reads
- The theme, stated as a question rather than a topic area, and why it is worth a collection now.
- The guest editors, their expertise, and their relationship to the theme.
- The kinds of contribution the collection would draw, and roughly how many.
- A realistic schedule for the call and for the collection's completion.
The editorial office responds with whether the theme fits the journal’s remit and what would be needed to take it forward.
Governance
A collection is reviewed like any other work
Manuscripts submitted to a special issue are assessed on the same terms as any other submission. All submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal’s scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review. Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request.
Every manuscript in a collection goes through the journal’s normal reviewer-approval process: reviewers are selected and approved by the journal, and the same standards of evidence apply as to any other submission. Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal.
Final editorial decision authority rests with the journal’s editorial leadership. Guest editors shape the theme, invite contributions and advise on the collection; they do not hold the decision. Guest editors recuse themselves from decisions on their own submissions, which are handled independently by a journal editor.
These safeguards are what make a collection worth reading: the theme is curated, and the science in it is judged exactly as it would be anywhere else in the journal, on the same timetable.
