Special Issues
International Journal of Vasculitis
Propose a Special Issue. International Journal of Vasculitis welcomes proposals for focused collections that address important questions in inflammatory vascular disease. Researchers with relevant expertise are invited to review the proposal requirements and contact the editorial office.
Who proposes
Proposals usually come from researchers or clinicians who can see a question forming across several groups and who are willing to act as guest editors for the collection.
What a proposal should contain

The question
A short statement of the scientific question the collection would address and why it is worth gathering work around now.
Collections extend the journal’s remit rather than stepping outside it, so the proposal should read naturally against Aims and Scope.

The scope of the collection
The kinds of contribution the collection would welcome, across mechanisms, classification, diagnosis, treatment or outcomes as the question requires.

The guest editors
The proposed guest editors, their affiliations and their standing in the subject, with the ORCID iD of each where one exists.
Guest editors declare competing interests on the same terms as the journal’s own editors, and recuse themselves from decisions on their own submissions.

Handling and review
Manuscripts submitted to a collection are reviewed on the journal’s ordinary terms. Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request.
Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts. Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal.
How collections are governed
A special issue is a way of gathering related work, not a separate standard. A collection makes the connection between studies visible; it does not change how any one of them is judged.
The editorial office answers proposal enquiries and, where a proposal proceeds, agrees the collection’s scope, timetable and editorial arrangements with the guest editors in advance.
