Structural Biology

Structural biology is a field of science that focuses on the study of the structure of proteins, nucleic acids, carbohydrates, and other biomolecules that are essential for life. It utilizes a variety of techniques, mostly from X-ray crystallography, to allow researchers to visualize the three-dimensional shapes of biological molecules and to gain insights into their biological functions. Structural biology is used to help understand the basis of diseases in humans and other organisms, thereby aiding in the development of new medicines and treatments. It is also used to engineer novel proteins to be used in industrial and commercial processes. As a result, structural biology has become an integral part of molecular biology, biochemistry, and medicine.
