Dr. Heidi Silver is affiliated with Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN, where her research targets the role of inflammation on the clinical outcome of skeletal muscle wasting in solid tumor patients. She has conducted studies on nutrient intake, nutritional status, body composition, energy expenditure, and health outcomes of cancer and its treatment in head and neck cancer patients, particularly those on tube feedings and consuming liquid oral nutrition supplements. Her most-cited publication examines the effect of the glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist liraglutide, compared to caloric restriction, on appetite, dietary intake, body fat distribution, and cardiometabolic biomarkers in adults with obesity and prediabetes. Dr. Silver's broader research portfolio encompasses nutrition support and food intake issues in older adults after hospital discharge, family caregiving, and the implementation of Dietary Reference Intakes in nutrition programs for older Americans. She possesses extensive clinical expertise in parenteral and enteral nutrition support across trauma, critical care, oncology, malabsorption, and metabolic disorders.
