Research that tests how prevention works
JPMC considers prevention-focused manuscripts on a rolling basis. The journal is seeking clearly designed studies that identify preventable risk, evaluate intervention, improve early detection, or strengthen preventive care and population health.
Prevention questions in scope
Topic alone is insufficient. The manuscript should identify the prevention pathway, study population, outcome, and decision context.
Risk reduction
Behavioral, environmental, occupational, social, or health-system interventions that reduce preventable risk.
Screening and early detection
Program performance, uptake, accuracy, harms, follow-up pathways, equity, and implementation.
Preventive and primary care
Care models, clinical prevention, vaccination, counseling, risk assessment, and continuity across services.
Population and community health
Epidemiology, health promotion, community programs, disparities, social determinants, and prevention policy.
Implementation and services
Feasibility, fidelity, reach, adoption, sustainability, resource use, and system-level improvement.
Digital prevention
Technology-enabled prevention or monitoring when evaluated against a defined health, access, equity, or implementation outcome.
What editors and reviewers need to see
The journal values relevance, but relevance cannot substitute for a defensible design, transparent analysis, ethical conduct, and conclusions proportionate to the evidence.
Defined prevention mechanism
Explain how the exposure, intervention, service, or policy could change a prevention outcome.
Fit-for-purpose methods
Match design and analysis to the question; report uncertainty, missing data, bias, confounding, and limitations.
Ethics and reporting
Provide approvals, consent, registration, data-availability information, and the applicable reporting checklist.
Responsible interpretation
Do not convert association into causation or present publication as clinical or policy endorsement.

Submission readiness
- The prevention question and journal fit are explicit in the title, abstract, and cover letter.
- The study design, setting, population, intervention or exposure, and outcomes are defined.
- Ethics, consent, registration, data, funding, conflicts, author contributions, preprint, and AI-use statements are complete.
- Figures, tables, references, and reporting-guideline checklists are ready for evaluation.
- The authors understand the USD 1,800 APC is invoiced only after acceptance and does not affect the decision.

JPMC welcomes prevention-focused manuscripts throughout the year. Researchers, clinicians, public-health professionals, and multidisciplinary teams are invited to submit work that advances disease prevention, early detection, risk reduction, preventive care, and population health.
