Responsibilities
What the board does
Editors decide whether a manuscript is within the journal's remit, select the reviewers, weigh what comes back, and take the decision.
Review
Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request.
All submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal's scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review.
Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.
Decisions
Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal.
Those decisions are made independently of any fee, service, membership or role.
An editor's own work
An editor who is an author of a submitted manuscript, or who has a competing interest in it, takes no part in handling it. The manuscript is assigned to another editor and the record shows that it was handled independently. Serving on the board confers no advantage in the review or acceptance of an editor's own work.
Joining the board
Researchers who would like to be considered for the board, or to review for the journal, are welcome to write to the editorial office at [email protected] with a current CV and a note of the methods and systems they work on.
