International Journal of Pain Management welcomes submissions throughout the year from researchers, clinicians, and multidisciplinary teams working across pain research and pain care.
What makes a manuscript a good fit
A manuscript is in scope when it makes a substantive contribution to pain or its management — preclinical, theoretical, methodological, review, clinical or lived-experience work alike — rather than using pain as an incidental variable. Whether the evidence presented supports the claims made is a separate judgment, reached in review.
International Journal of Pain Management publishes peer-reviewed research on pain and its management: the mechanisms that produce and sustain it, the instruments that measure it, the interventions and services that address it, and the function, participation and experience of the people who live with it.
Work is welcome from any point in that range, and each kind of study is read on its own terms.
Questions the journal would like to see
Sensitization, central processing, and the molecular and neuroimmune changes that accompany pain that does not resolve.
Instrument development and appraisal, patient-reported and observer measures, and the methodological work that decides what a measure can support.
Analgesic pharmacology and equivalence, regional and neuromodulatory techniques, and the safety questions that travel with them.
Physical and psychological approaches, and the movement, sleep, mood, work and participation outcomes by which they are judged.
How pain care is organized and delivered, the tools that support clinical decisions, and who reaches care and who does not.
Qualitative and mixed-methods accounts of the experience of pain and of being cared for.
These are the areas the editors would particularly like to read in. They describe interest, not eligibility: any manuscript within the Aims & Scope is welcome.
Regular submissions are accepted throughout the year
Manuscripts are considered as they arrive; there is no submission window to wait for. Preparation requirements are set out in the Instructions for Authors, and reading them before writing is the single most useful thing an author can do.
All submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal’s scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review.
Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request.
Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.
Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal.
