Propose a Special Issue
The International Journal of Neonatology welcomes proposals for focused collections that address important questions in neonatology and newborn health. Researchers with relevant expertise are invited to review the proposal requirements below and contact the editorial office.

Proposals
What a proposal should set out
Proposals are welcome from researchers and clinicians with established expertise in the topic. Write to the editorial office at [email protected] with the following.
The topic and why now
The question the collection would address, and what makes it timely for the newborn field.
Guest editors
The proposed guest editors, their affiliations, and the expertise each brings to the topic.
Scope and article types
The range of work the collection would cover, and the manuscript types you expect it to attract.
Timetable
A proposed opening and closing date for submissions, and when the collection would be assembled.

Governance
How a collection is run
A special issue is held to the same standards as the rest of the journal. These safeguards are what make that true.
The same review
Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request. Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.
The same decision criteria
Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal.
Guest editors and their own work
A guest editor who submits to their own collection takes no part in the decision on it. That manuscript is handled by another editor, independently.
Independent oversight
The journal’s editors retain final responsibility for what the collection publishes, and decisions remain independent of fees, services, membership, and editorial or reviewer roles.
