Three routes reach the editorial office of the Journal of Experimental and Clinical Toxicology. Choose one, and use only that one for a given manuscript.

For authors who would rather send the manuscript and let the office register it.
Authors must use only one submission route for the same manuscript. Submitting the same manuscript by more than one route creates duplicate records and delays the assessment.
Contributions
Article types and limits
These are the manuscript types the journal accepts, with the limits that apply to each. They are the same on the aims and scope, instructions for authors and call for papers pages.
- Original research article · up to 6,000 words
- Experimental or clinical investigation reporting new findings, excluding abstract, references, tables and figure legends.
- Review article · up to 8,000 words
- Systematic or narrative synthesis of a toxicological question; systematic reviews follow PRISMA.
- Methods paper · up to 5,000 words
- A new or improved approach to toxicity testing, biomarker detection or analysis, reported with validation data.
- Case report · up to 3,000 words
- An instructive clinical toxicology case, with presentation, management and course documented in full.
- Short communication · up to 2,500 words
- A brief report of a novel observation, with a maximum of two figures or tables.
Word limits exclude the abstract, references, tables and figure legends.
Before sending
What to have ready
- The manuscript file, prepared for its article type.
- A title page with every author, affiliation and ORCID identifier.
- Figures as separate files at 300 dpi or more; tables in editable Word format.
- Ethics approvals with protocol identifiers, and trial registration where applicable.
- Conflict-of-interest and funding declarations, and a data-availability statement.

After submission
What happens next
- 01Screening. All submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal’s scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review.
- 02Review. Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request. Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.
- 03Decision. Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal.
- 04Publication. An accepted article is prepared for publication, registered with a Crossref DOI and published open access under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY 4.0) license.
Charges
An article processing charge of USD 1,440 is raised after acceptance. Submission, review and declined manuscripts are free of charge.

Ask before you submit
The editorial office answers questions of scope, article type and preparation directly, and a short description of the study is enough to get an answer.
Decisions remain independent of fees, membership, editorial roles and paid services.
