Enzymes welcomes submissions throughout the year from researchers, clinicians and multidisciplinary teams working across enzyme science. Regular submissions are accepted throughout the year.
What the journal reads
Work the journal is looking for
One test decides fit: the enzyme carries the scientific question. Organism, system and field of application vary, and fundamental and applied work are read on the same terms. The areas below are where most submissions sit; they illustrate the remit rather than bound it.
- Structure and function Active-site architecture, conformational behavior, and the structural basis of catalysis.
- Mechanism and kinetics Rate measurement, substrate specificity, transition states, inhibition and cofactor chemistry.
- Catalysis and regulation Allostery, post-translational control and how activity is tuned in its setting.
- Pathway and metabolic enzymology Enzymes in networks: flux, control and multi-enzyme behavior.
- Engineering and directed evolution Rational design, mutagenesis and evolved variants, with what they actually do.
- Biocatalysis Immobilization, stability, reactor behavior and synthesis at working scale.
- Computational and methodological work Simulation, modeling, prediction, and new assays or analytical techniques.
- Clinical, diagnostic and industrial applications Enzymes as biomarkers, therapeutics and process components, on the evidence each claim requires.

Formats
What you can send
Four article types, with the same word limits and preparation requirements the Instructions page sets out.
Original Research
4,000–6,000 words. New enzyme findings with methodology and mechanistic interpretation.
Review Article
5,000–8,000 words. Analysis of an enzyme topic across the literature; a systematic review follows PRISMA.
Technical Note
1,500–3,000 words. A new assay, purification protocol or analytical technique.
Short Communication
1,500–2,500 words. A brief report of a finding that warrants early publication.
Word counts exclude references. Full preparation requirements are in Instructions for Authors, and the publication charge is on Article Processing Charges.

How your manuscript is handled
The same route for every submission, whoever sends it.
Screening
All submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal's scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review.
Review
Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request.
Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.
Decision
Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal.
Decisions remain independent of fees, services, memberships, and editorial or reviewer roles.
